Meet the Pete's: December 2013

So far this family of four things has been pretty much awesome. People made me nervous by telling me how drastic of a change it would be. It has been an adjustment, but not a bad one. It's actually been such a natural and smooth change. This is no credit to me or my awesome parenting.. I think this is due to having the most even tempered, calm and down right easy new born.

Welles is a dream baby! He is just the happiest and most content little thing. At first I thought this might be due to the Downs. But after lots of reading and research, I don't think so. He isn't docile or lethargic. He does everything a three-month-old baby should do. He's very alert, he smiles, tracks with his eyes, kicks, coos and cuddles. We have yet to see any delays. His early intervention observer says the delays really start to show once they are supposed to be hitting mile stones like sitting up, crawling, talking etc... His pediatrician was impressed with him. We switched to a pediatrician that works with special needs kids. She is awesome. She knows the ins and outs of trisomy 21 kids. At his last appointment (2 month check up), he pushed up on his forearms and held his head up perfectly! She was so impressed and said he is a "high functioning baby". This made me really happy. I know there will be lots of delays ahead, but I'm okay with that. We plan to do everything to make sure he is a high functioning baby, child and adult. One thing specialists have told us is to make sure we don't baby him (this is as he gets older of course). We are supposed to treat him the same way we treat our other kids. I've got a feeling this will be a little hard for me... I have such a huge soft spot for him already! He gives me butterflies! It's going to be hard not to give in. He's much too sweet not to spoil.. And I'm pretty sure he will stay that way:).

Scarlett is doing GREAT with her little "bwudder". She adores him. Every morning when I go get her from her crib, she runs into our room and over to the bed and says "Good morning bwudder! Hi honey! I miss you!". My heart spills to the floor. She is such a compassionate little girl. I have been really impressed with the way she handles the split attention. She seems happy to share mommy and daddy with little "wews".

Scar continues to love learning, singing, coloring, all things princess and has really gotten into imagination playing. She makes her little dolls talk to each other and puts them in time out when they aren't nice! Makes you wonder how much time she spends in the corner, huh? She is still sassy as can be. But just as fast as she can melt down on the floor, she can run and give me hugs and kisses. She is the definition of a lover AND a fighter. More on the lover side though;). She nows calls me "Oakwee" half the time. This drives me nuts. She is such a funny and interactive toddler. She loves me to sit on the floor and play blocks, princesses and color with her ("mommy sit down! Sit here!"). She is my little best friend. We have so much fun together. Her imagination and confidence makes me so happy.

Bullets since Welles has been home;

We rushed him in to the ER after being home a couple weeks for a 102 fever and stomach problems. Two ambulances rides, three hospitals and a three night stint at Primary Children's Hospital left us relieved and confused. What they thought could be spiral meningitis, a bad virus and x-ray that almost proved it to be Hirschsprung disease turned out to be nothing. The doctors were baffled when the tests and biopsies all came back negative. They were ready to send our boy into surgery to have a colostomy bag placed. Thank heavens for answered prayers! (Okay, longest "bullet" ever).

Scarlett turned TWO! It's been a crazy crazy couple of months AND I am not big on baby birthdays. So we had a family party after Welles blessing. On her actual birthday, we decided to go to Chuck E Cheese at the last min. Turned out to be a blast. She loved that germ infested place:).
Girls trip to AZ with my sis in laws. Such a fun trip. I love those girls.
